I've also been getting a similar issue for the past few days when using Sharepoint Online via our 365 tenant too. It's been exceptionally unstable, and complaining about a malicious add-on, yet all of the add-ons in my browser are disabled. I've also noticed that trying to save a document to a site that I only have read-only access to I wasn't aware didn't throw up any error messages, it just caused the Microsoft Office Uploader to hang and my Office 2016 application to crash. Just for the notes, It's working fine after the last round of ding-dong with the add-ons. Yesterday I needed to attend a WebEx meeting which resulted in enabling the below add-on and IE started crashing again. After updating the office products yesterday as Word, Excel etc were giving a message of updates available , the IE started crashing again this morning when trying to access the SharePoint Online sites. When we're all on Windows 10 1709 Creators Fall update there is no need for IE, because we can show them, without having to sync, their SPO files via the new Onedrive client. Using Onedrive instead of SharePoint may need users to switch between two for different features e. If plan is to mainly use Chrome for all of features except 'open in explorer' and use Onedrive just for this then it sorta creates a disjoint user experience. Additionally Onedrive may replicate files on local machine which may not be allowed contractually for security reasons. In my case the problem has solved itself, unsure if there were any updates on server side O-365 but there has been no updates on my machine since the last time I experienced the error. I think for anyone experiencing this error, easier solution may be to access SharePoint via the 'bookmarked' URLs.
